ED's mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.
ED was created in 1980 by combining offices from several federal agencies. ED's 4,400 employees and $68 billion budget are dedicated to: Establishing policies on federal financial aid for education, and distributing as well as monitoring those funds. Collecting data on America's schools and disseminating research. Focusing national attention on key educational issues. Prohibiting discrimination and ensuring equal access to education.
The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) is dedicated to improving results for infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities ages birth through 21 by providing leadership and financial support to assist states and local districts.
My mission as a Special Education teacher is to serve as an advocate for parents/guardians, students, and our school community by providing educational services and to treat people with dignity and respect. I am dedicated to the philosophy that ALL students can learn by creating positive and safe learning environments. ALL students can achieve and progress through the general education curriculum by providing support, assistance, and resources. Students will feel accepted into the instructional and diverse social culture of the school community and thereby succeed in reaching their learning potential.
