Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs are sustained efforts by parents, schools, community leaders and local, state, and federal governments to improve the health and well-being of children by enabling and encouraging them to walk and bicycle to school, and to do so safely.



About Safe Routes to School

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is an international program to encourage safe walking and bicycling to and from schools. SRTS is based on six principals, the “6 E’s“: Education, Encouragement, Engagement, Engineering, Evaluation, and Equity. Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs are sustained efforts by parents, schools, community leaders and local, state, and federal governments to improve the health and well-being of children by enabling and encouraging them to walk and bicycle to school, and to do so safely.

Safe Routes to School at CCSD

The Clark County School District SRTS program is federally funded through the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) and is supported by many community partners. SRTS activities include school and community workshops which facilitate development of SRTS plans unique to each school, bicycle and pedestrian safety events and assemblies, safety curriculum supports for elementary and middle school classrooms and more. SRTS programs have been at CCSD since 2008.
