Student Safety Assemblies
A pedestrian and bicycle safety presentation where students K-5 learn and reinforce safety skills. (2) 20 minute assemblies are presented with the first one geared for grades K-2 and the second for grades 3-5. Students also learn the environmental and health benefits of walking and biking.
Bike Repair Workshop
Safe Routes staff conduct a 2-hour Do-It-Yourself Clinic, where parents and students will learn how to pump up tires, fix a flat, fit a helmet properly, and adjust a seat. During this event, a mobile bike repair van will service and fix minor repairs to your bikes free of charge. Students, please bring your bikes to get checked out by our repair technician. Students will also receive a FREE helmet, lock, bike safety booklet, repair kit, and will also learn some great ways to stay safe while riding.
Bike Rodeo
Designed to teach children, through hands-on experience, how to be a safe pedestrian and bicyclist. This is a fun opportunity to improve cycling skills and reinforce safety behavior. These clinics can be elaborate or as basic as you and your volunteers choose to make it.
Bike Rodeo: Train the Trainer Workshop
Participants learn how to organize and hold successful bike rodeo/bike pedestrian safety clinic events. Our professionals can train CCSD staff, community members, student government representatives and PTAs/PTOs how to run a successful bike rodeo.
FACES Workshop
SRTS presents different workshops at FACES school locations that focus on encouraging parents to teach children bicycle and pedestrian safety. We offer the following classes:
Active and Healthy Families – Special Events and Programs to Boost Physical Activity:
This program facilitates several events each school year to encourage students and parents to be physically active.
Street Smarts- Encouraging Safe Walking and Bicycling to and from school:
This program teach children to walk and bicycle safely to and from school, the importance of being a role model, and an overview of a parent led walking school bus or bicycle train program.
Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Clinic- Train the Trainer Workshop:
This program teaches participants how to organize and hold a successful bike rodeo for students at their school or other locations. Teaches students the fundamentals of bicycle handling skills in a structured format.
Safe Routes to School Parent Meeting
During this meeting, we highlight the importance of walking and biking safely to and from school, the importance of being a good role model, and an overview of a parent led walking school bus or bicycle train program. This meeting also cover how parent can take leadership roles in planning and organizing special events at their child’s school
