Taking a Spanish class to learn about the culture is one thing, but actually visiting the place and taking in the culture is another. Where students really get a good opportunity to learn the way of living is in these areas like France and Barcelona. Many kids throughout all grades have been offered an opportunity to go on a trip through clark county school district to Europe for a week.. Some of the kids that have accepted this offer and are excited to go are Sarah Chen(8th), Kirstyn Oden,8th grade and Carl LoBue,7th grade. These students will travel on a plane to Europe and stop at places like Paris and Barcelona.
One thing most people need to know before visiting these places is that in Barcelona and in Paris they speak different languages. In the article “Languages Across Europe" by BBC, it is stated that the official language of Paris is French and the official languages of Barcelona is Spanish and Catalan. “I will be the first person in my family to go to Spain,” said Chen,8th grade.
Another thing is it will be very hard to have a different way of paying. In both Barcelona and Spain the currency is the Euro whereas in the U.S it is the dollar and one dollar is equivalent to 0.93 Euros. A cup of coffee in Paris is about 2 euros which is approximately $2.14. In the U.S a cup of coffee is almost $5.”I plan on eating the diverse foods and experiencing the culture,” said Oden,8th grade. Paying for items in a different country like Paris will definitely be a new experience for people going on the trip and may be shocking on how differently priced everything is.
Both Barcelona and Paris are two very interesting places and each have their own places to see. In Paris there is the well known Eiffel tower and Musee du Louver, whereas in Barcelona there is the La Sagrada Familia and Park guell. ”I am most excited for seeing famous things like the EIffel Tower and other landmarks,”said LoBue, 7th grade.
Overall Barcelona and Paris are cities full of wonders and it would be a great experience to go there. Many people may not have the opportunity to travel out of the country but so many kids in CCSD have received the opportunity. Paying with a different currency, visiting different landmarks, and even going to two places in one trip is truly an amazing experience that everyone should have.
