If you're a dependent student, you'll need this information for you and your parents.
Both you and your parents will need an FSA (Federal Student Aid) ID number to access the FAFSA and sign the form electronically. The FSA ID must be obtained at studentaid.gov/help/create-fsa-id before you start the FAFSA, and we recommend applying 3-5 days before you plan on startnig the FAFSA.
Your Social Security number (it’s important that you enter it correctly on the FAFSA!)
Your parents’ Social Security numbers. Parents without a social security number will respond with 000-00-0000, when asked for an SSN.
What do you no longer need? Student and parent tax documents. All of this information will be automatically accessed from the IRS through the FUTURE Act Direct Data Exchange (FADDX).
Important note: If your parent doesn’t have a Social Security number (SSN), your parent won’t be able to create an FSA ID (which requires an SSN). This means you’ll have to select the option to print a signature page when you get to the end of your FAFSA form on fafsa.gov.
By completing the FAFSA, you could be offered; Grants, Work Study, Loans, and Scholarships.
