BA in English

"We can play school, but only if I am the teacher." This was the only request I demanded of my four cousins when it was play time at my house. My fifth grade teachers were probably relieved when I asked them for all their extra handouts at the end of the school year. I started my summer with a bag full of math and ELA worksheets. I proudly wore a pen as a lanyard around my neck. I set up tables and chairs for my "students" and  began the process of distributing their work.  Little did I know that teaching would be more than play time for me. I believe teaching was a calling at a young age, however the art of teaching became a passion well into my high school years and beyond.

I started my teaching career as a high school ELA teacher on the island of Guam. I taught all levels from remedial ELA to honors English.  After five years, I moved to Gig Harbor Washington, and traveled about 45 minutes to teach in Silverdale, WA.  I continued to teach various levels of ELA, including AP Language. My husband's last Air Force duty brought us to Las Vegas. I have been at KO since we moved here thirteen years ago. Although it takes me almost one hour to travel to and from KO every day, I absolutely love the students at our school!

I have always loved and believed in the power of the arts. Technology, music, visual arts, and performing arts are embedded into my lessons on a regular basis.  I enjoy watching my students grow as they showcase their abilities through the arts. They inspire me!

Some of my friends ask, "How on earth do you do it? How can you deal with all the stress of being a teacher?" I simply tell them, "You've got to  LOVE teaching in order to survive!" When you understand that you have the ability to change a person's life, you no  are longer simply "playing school," you are making  a difference. This is my calling in life...

In addition to teaching, I enjoy reading, crafting, fashion, going to the beach, and spending countless hours with my family and friends.

I'm looking forward to another AMAZING school year with SPECTACULAR students!
