Hi! I’m Miss Kirkpatrick, the Read by Grade 3 (RBG3) literacy specialist at David M. Cox Elementary! I have already planned so much for your children to learn and grow as readers. I am looking forward to working with all of my new students and their families.
I have been the Read by Grade 3 (RBG3) literacy specialist for seven years. I also taught fourth grade and was a fourth/fifth grade interventionist all at DMC. However, this is my seventeenth year overall in education. For five years, I worked as an elementary (K-5) reading intervention teacher at a Title I school in Southern California. In addition, I spent two years completing full-year internships in school counseling at both the elementary and middle school levels.
In terms of my educational background, I have completed the following degrees: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in History from California State University, Northridge (2006); Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) in Teacher Leadership from California Lutheran University (2007 and 2011); and Master’s Degree (M.S.) in Counseling (School Counseling) and Pupil Personnel Services Credential from California State University, Northridge (2015).
With all of my education and experience, I have developed a deep love of teaching and am a strong advocate for all children on campus. As inspiring educator Rita Pierson once said “every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.”
