Monochrome Images

This assignment was very interesting because this was one of the first assignments where we were allowed to edit our pictures in a third party program. Also we had to learn concepts such as intensity, tones, and grain in order to create these monochrome images. This assignment made me realize how important lighting and shades are to a photo and how they can really emphasize something in the picture and change the whole tone and mood of the picture.

These pictures are good because the pigeon which is the focal point sits on top of this metal like structure that gives a really nice balance between the two objects. You can also see some of the sky in the photo and that gives good balance to the whole picture because they are different shades of colors. And I also liked how in the second photo the buildings were more clearly seen as well as the pigeon. I made the image lighter so that the pigeon and buildings could be seen with clarity. And overall the second picture gives off a comforting tone.

I really liked how in the first picture it was bursting with bright colors and I also liked how the jacket's colors contrast the background of the image. For the second picture I made the jacket's shade of color more dark and it really emphasized the jacket a lot more and this extra darkness gave it a better focal point and makes it stand out more. Overall I liked this picture a lot because of the lettering on the jacket gave the picture a lot more variety with it's change in color and I also think the black and white gave it a lot more definition.

In the first picture there weren't many colors that stood out maybe except for the kid's blue adidas jacket but I liked the picture because the background falls perfectly onto the focal point which is the kid with the camera. And for the second picture all of the trees in the background became colorless and I think this is interesting because now it gives the kid in the center a lot more attention and all the different types of shades and usage of shadow give the image a more "old" feel.
