About Technical Theatre
Mary Poppins - Spring 2019
The mission of Technical Theatre at KO Knudson Academy of the Arts is to teach members of the KO tech crew through hands-on experiences in theatrical and entertainment productions, encouraging creative problem-solving, collaboration, and confidence while also equipping them with valuable skills for the entertainment industry.
In Technical Theatre with Mr. Ingerson, young thespians will learn set design, computer drafting, basic carpentry, lighting design and implementation, sound design and implementation, and stage management, as well as collaboration, creative problem solving, and how to work on a cohesive production team.
All (Yes ALL) events that happen in the KO theater are run by KO technical theatre students. Technical theatre students gain hands-on, practical experience while working on KO productions. Technical theatre students are responsible for providing all technical needs for all KO events. This includes lights, sound, projections, set building, scene changes, and anything else a production may need.
Technical Theatre students may have opportunities to travel as well, such as attendance to the annual Tech and Leadership Conference where students can learn about technical theatre from professionals as well as get advice on their own work. In past years, technical theatre students have also traveled to places such as UNLV, CSN, LVA, Resorts World Theatre, Mystére and The Beatles LOVE by Cirque Du Soleil, Disneyland, Disneyworld, Universal Studios, WB Studios, Knott's Berry Farms, New York City, and more!
