This is a great book for you and your child to read to help you understand their giftedness- The Survival Guide For Gifted Kids By Judy Galbraith.
According to Judy Galbraith, there are some myths that are important for us to clear up:
"Myth 1: Gifted kids don't need help in school."
There are times when gifted students will not understand a concept and need more practice. There are students who will need help in learning how to study, organize, and navigate social situations. Gifted students also need services through the GATE program to help them maximize their full potential by giving them the tools they need to be successful and to think with depth and complexity.
"Myth 2: Gifted students are gifted in everything and should always excel!"
Students can be gifted in some areas and struggle in others. This is completely normal. According to the National Gifted Association for Children, "Asynchrony is the term used to describe the mismatch between cognitive, emotional, and physical development of gifted individuals. Gifted children often have significant variations within themselves and develop unevenly across skill levels."
