The Extended School Year (ESY) Department provides educational and related services beyond the typical school year. Individual Educational Program (IEP) teams determine if students qualify for ESY services based on a critical learning need or by showing regression following a school break.
Students must have ESY services included in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP team determines whether the student qualifies for ESY services based on the following criteria:
Patterns of Regression: Regression is a loss of critical skills after a significant break from instruction (i.e, summer break). This can include academic, behavioral, or life skills. All students are expected to demonstrate some skill regression after a break, but patterns of significant losses in critical skills may suggest the need for ESY.
Rate of Recoupment: Rate of recoupment is the amount of time required to re-learn skills following an extended break from school. After breaks, nondisabled students typically require some time to recoup skills (i.e., 4-5 days is the typical time it takes a student to recoup skills after Winter Break); however, extensive recoupment periods may suggest the need for ESY.
New or Emerging Skills: Some students may be at a crucial point in skill acquisition or readiness. If students are in the early stages of developing and demonstrating new skills and an interruption in services is likely to undermine that progress, they may be eligible for ESY services.
Nature & Severity of Disability: Some students have disabilities that are likely to continue indefinitely or for a prolonged period. In this situation, interruption of the student’s educational programming may cause regression and render it impossible or unlikely that the student will attain a level of self-sufficiency and independence in view of his or her disability.
The Extended School Year (ESY) Department provides ESY credit retrieval to any secondary student with an IEP who has previously failed a course
Students have an opportunity to earn up to two half credits during ESY
There is no cost for students attending ESY credit retrieval
Transportation services are not available for students attending ESY credit retrieval
If your student qualifies for ESY services, the parent/guardian will begin receiving notifications via ParentLink beginning March 2, 2026
The parent/guardian will complete the enrollment form to accept or decline ESY services
If the parent/guardian did not receive a ParentLink text or email beginning March 2, 2026, they can email: esy@nv.ccsd.net
Parents/guardians must complete the form sent via ParentLink by May 22, 2026, to receive transportation services, beginning on the first day of ESY (June 24, 2026)
Secondary students attending ESY credit retrieval only do not qualify for transportation services
If your student qualifies for ESY services, the parent/guardian will begin receiving notifications via ParentLink beginning March 2, 2026
The parent/guardian will complete the enrollment form to accept or decline ESY services
Parents/Guardians will be notified via ParentLink text and email with directions to view their student’s ESY assignment in Infinite Campus on May 22, 2026
