TOYS FROM OUR CHILDHOOD
Demi Perez
I still recall arriving home from a long day of elementary school. I remember how playing with my favorite toys was always the first thing I wanted to do upon my arrival. Bratz dolls, Shopkins, Hotwheels, and Barbies, are just a few of the toys that made up my childhood, and I think a lot of people can relate to that as well. It´s amazing to think about the impact toys have had on our childhood. It is nice to look back at the past when our lives were much different.
SHOPKINS
I remember becoming utterly obsessed with ¨Shopkins¨. When I say that I was obsessed with these toys, I mean that I would cry at Walmart just begging for my mom to let me have them. My mother often refused as she didn´t understand all the hype about these tiny, less than 1-inch toys. Shopkins are an extensive range of little unique figures with their names and characteristics. They were often designed as objects, foods, and drinks, with hundreds to collect. They came out in June 2014 by an Australian company, ¨ Moose,¨ and later became a worldwide popular toy, selling over 600 million of these toys. These days, I don´t quite understand my past obsession with these toys, but I will never forget my little 8-year-old self, happy to look under the tree for Christmas, and excitedly hoping my Shopkin collection would grow.

CABBAGE PATCH
I remember being four years old when I got my first Cabbage Patch doll. I would take the doll wherever I went. Whether in the park, the store, or in the car, my doll went where I went, and that´s how it was for a very long time. I found comfort in my doll, as she was my favorite then. Cabbage Patch dolls are cloth dolls with plastic heads, coming in various shapes and sizes. They first originated in 1982 and became one of the most successful dolls in the toy industry. For me, these dolls seemed to be the most important thing to me when I was very little, as my cousins had them as well. I have vivid memories of times when we would play together with them. Finding out a while ago that these dolls are still making a lot of money and are still in stock was cool to know.

LITTLEST PET SHOPS
Many toys were the center of attention, but the real attention was mainly focused on ¨ Littlest Pet Shop¨ toys. They were designed as little figures to resemble real animals. They were created by the Hasbro toy company in the 1990´s. The company has released more than 3,000 of these little animal figures. It would make sense that these toys were so popular, considering there were video games and an animated series, ¨ The Littlest Pet Shop.¨ An article, ¨ The Hidden Gem That Is Littlest Pet Shop,¨ states, ¨ The 2-inch figures have amassed a dedicated fan base since they were released in the ’90s, and there’s no sign of this hype train ever stopping. The value of many Littlest Pet Shop figures continues to grow.¨ I remember being ten and still growing my collection I had started when I was 7. These toys were memorable and a big part of a lot of 2000 kids' childhood.
After years of playing with toys, it´s nice to go back and think about the times when we were all really little. It´s very nostalgic to think about the toys played back then and how they have impacted us as children. Life was easier with fewer responsibilities and fun-filled with playing with toys. It´s fun talking about the memories we children have had playing with our toys, especially since they have been a big part of our childhood.

TV SHOWS FROM OUR CHILDHOOD
Demi Perez
There have been a lot of memorable shows from our childhood. From PBS Kids to Disney channel shows, I would spend a lot of time as a child watching them without really knowing I was creating memories in my head. My favorite shows when I was younger were Sesame Street, The Amazing World Of Gumball, and Jessie. There were many other shows I would watch, but those were most of what I really focused on as a kid. Years later I still remember vividly as if I watched them just yesterday.
SESAME STREET
Sesame Street is a well-known show, and many of us have watched it when we were little. The show is meant to be not just entertaining but also educational, combining cartoons, puppetry, and live-action. The show centers around a puppet called Elmo and his friends. Sesame Street is known for teaching children the alphabet, math, and life lessons and skills like kindness and friendship, as the show targets babies and preschoolers. A lot of the most recognizable characters are Elmo, Oscar The Grouch, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and more. Throughout my childhood, Sesame Street has been a show I would watch in the living room as my older siblings left for school; it was long before I went to preschool that I knew the alphabet from Elmo.

THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL
I still remember the family of cats, bunnies, and fish. The Amazing World Of Gumball was an entertaining show I would watch. It was a fun show to watch with my siblings and laughed at how silly the show was. The show focused on Gumball Waterson, a blue cat, and the rest of his family, as each day is an adventure. Gumball always seemed to get into big trouble and then try to get out of it with the help of his adoptive brother Darwin, a fish. It is an animated sitcom appearing on The Cartoon Network. It had been one of the channel's more popular shows, reaching more than 130 million viewers. It is the kind of show you can watch over and over again and not get bored. At least, that´s the way I remembered it.

JESSIE
If you watched a lot of Disney Channel when you were younger, you probably watched ¨Jessie¨; I know I did. The show is about an 18-year-old girl from Texas who goes to New York, accepting a babysitting job for a millionaire´s family. With their parents always busy, Jessie is left to care for children Emma, Luke, Ravi, and Zuri. The show is meant to be comedy and coming of age. It was released from 2011 to 2014, becoming a popular show. It is now a show on Disney+, and still very popular.
It's nice to think about the shows we watched, and how they shaped our childhood. I sure loved Sesame Street, The Amazing World Of Gumball, and Jessie. They were creative, funny, and interesting, and even now I wouldn´t mind sitting down to watch 5 episodes of Jessie. I think many would agree as well. Especially knowing that a lot of people watched these as well when they were little. If only we could go back in time and watch them for the first time again.

Purble Place. Oberon Media, 2007.
Purble Place is a single-player educational game that kids played from November 13, 2005, until it shut down. The only way people were able to play Purble Place was if they had Microsoft Windows. There were three games in Purble Place. The first one is called Purble Pairs and it’s similar to Concetration. There are three different levels, there’s beginner which is a 5x5 grid, intermediate which is two 6x6 grids, and advanced has four 8x8 grids. The second game is Comfy Cakes and it’s a hand-eye coordination game. In the game, you are given cakes and have to match them to the correct cake you are given. You have to match the shape, batter flavor, cake layers, icing, and other decorations. The third game is Purble Shop. Purble Shop is a code-breaker game. All you have to do is dress the person. You have to choose one of each of the six features (3 eyes, 3 noses, 3 mouths), and the more you keep going, the more stuff you get like hats, clothes, and shoes and you start getting more colors (blue, green, red). You have to guess six times, if you get most of it wrong it is game over.
Coolmath Games was out to the public in 1997. It’s almost like Purble Place but better because there are over 1,000 games that you can choose from. Some people may remember using Coolmath-Games when they were younger and enjoy the games on them. Coolmath-Games features nonviolent and educational games such as Run 3, Papa's Freezeria, Chess, Fireboy and Watergirl, and many other games are available. Back in the early 2000s, Coolmath-games used to look all silly and childish so that kids would play the math games they had. They didn't just teach math but science, language, and many more.

BOOKS FROM OUR CHILDHOOD
Yareli Ramirez-Reyes
A lot of kids' favorite thing growing up was circling the librarian as she read the book she picked out. The books that the librarian almost always read were There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.
“There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly by Simms Taback: 9780670869398 | PenguinRandomHouse.Com: Books.” PenguinRandomhouse.Com, https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/288763/there-was-an-old-lady-who-swallowed-a-fly-by-simms-taback/. Accessed 7 Dec. 2023.
The first book I’ll talk about is There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly and in the book, the old lady swallows a fly on accident and tries to solve her by eating bigger animals that will kill the fly. In the end, she dies because of all the big animals she ate. The moral of There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly is when something goes wrong, don’t fix it with things you know will make it worse.
The second book I’ll be talking about is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. In the book, a caterpillar is born and is very hungry, he eats everything he can, even junk food, and eats so much that he feels bloated. The moral of this story is to have self-control over everything to prevent bad things from happening.

The third book I’ll be talking about is If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. In the story, a mouse asks for a cookie and the boy gives him one, then the mouse asks for more things and the boy gives it all to him. In the end, the two sit together and eat a cookie together. The moral of this story is every action has a consequence, whether it’s good or bad.
