HISTORY OF DISNEY
“About Walt Disney.” D23, https://d23.com/about-walt-disney/. Accessed 15 Dec. 2023.
The creator of Mickey Mouse and founder of Disneyland and Disney World, Walt Disney-born Walter Elias Disney, was born December 5th, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. Elias Disney, his father, was Irish-Canadian. Flora Call Disney, his mother, was of German-American descent. Walt Disney was one of five children, a girl, and four boys. Walt sold his first sketches to his neighbors at only seven years old. In high school, he divided his attention between drawing and photography. At night, Walt attended the Academy of Fine Arts. In August of 1923, Walt Disney left Kansas City for Hollywood with only a few drawing materials, $40 in his pocket, and a completed animated and live-action film. Walt’s brother Roy O. Disney was already in California, with immense sympathy and encouragement, and $250. Pooling their resources, they borrowed an additional $500 and constructed a camera stand in their uncle’s garage. Soon, they received an order from New York for the first “Alice Comedy '' short, and the brothers began their production operation in the rear of a Hollywood real estate office two blocks away. Soon after arriving in California, he was successful. A distributor in New York, M. J. Winkler, contracted to distribute the Alice Comedies on October 16, 1923, and this date became the start of the Disney company.
Originally known as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, with Walt Disney and his brother, Roy, as equal partners, the company soon changed its name, at Roy’s suggestion, to the Walt Disney Studio. Walt Disney made his Alice Comedies for four years, but in 1927, he moved instead to an all-cartoon series. He created a character named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to star in this new series. Within a year, Walt made 26 of these Oswald cartoons. Still, when he tried to get some additional money from his distributor for a second year of the cartoons, he found out that the distributor had gone behind his back and signed up almost all of his animators, hoping to make the Oswald cartoons in his studio for less money without Walt Disney. On rereading his contract, Walt realized that he did not own the rights to Oswald—the distributor did. It was a painful lesson for the young cartoon producer to learn. From then on, he saw that he owned everything he made. The original Disney Studio had been in the back half of a real estate office on Kingswell Avenue in Hollywood, but soon Walt had enough money to move next door and rent a whole store for his studio. That tiny studio was sufficient for a couple of years, but the company eventually outgrowed it, and Walt had to look elsewhere. He found an ideal property on Hyperion Avenue in Hollywood, built a studio, and, in 1926, moved his staff to the new facility. It was at the Hyperion Studio, after the loss of Oswald, that Walt had to come up with a new character: Mickey Mouse. With his chief animator, Ub Iwerks, Walt designed the famous mouse and gave him a personality that endeared him to all. Ub animated two Mickey Mouse cartoons, but Walt could not sell them because they were silent films, and sound revolutionized the movie industry. So, they made a third Mickey Mouse cartoon, this time with fully synchronized sound, and Steamboat Willie opened to rave reviews at the Colony Theater in New York on November 18, 1928. A cartoon star, Mickey Mouse, was born. The new character was immediately popular, and a lengthy series of Mickey Mouse cartoons followed. 1930 was a big one for the mouse that started it all, as it saw the first Mickey Mouse book and newspaper comic strip published.

DISNEY PRINCESSES
Disney is a wonderful and exciting thing, isn’t it? In the Disney World, there are many collections that everyone knows and loves. In particular, the Disney Princess collection showcases amazing princesses with different stories and situations. In total, there are 11 official Disney princesses, but I decided to just talk about 5 of them.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Snow White is a film in which a beautiful, orphaned princess lives with her stepmother who despises her beauty and will do anything to be named “fairest of them all”. Her stepmother hired her huntsman to lure her into the forest and kill her, but he couldn’t do it. So instead, he begged her to run into the woods and never return to the castle. One day, the stepmother decides to dress up as an old peddler woman and persuades Snow White to eat a poisoned apple. Feeling like she had no other choice, she took a bite of the apple and fell into a deep sleep and needed a prince’s kiss to awaken her.
Cinderella (1950)
Cinderella is a film where Cinderella lives with her stepmother and stepsisters. As the movie continues, the stepmother starts to become aggressive and evil and so do the stepsisters(her daughters). Cinderella is forcibly turned into a house servant/maid and one day, Cinderella is invited to a ball, but her stepmother will only allow her to go if she finishes all her chores and can find something suitable to wear. Later on, Cinderella gains three fairy godmothers and they make her wish come true with a beautiful gown, a pumpkin carriage, and stunning glass slippers. That night, she got to dance with the prince and she was having an amazing time, but the clock suddenly struck 12 and she was turning back into her original self and she ran… and left one of her glass slippers.
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Princess Aurora was born to King Stefan and Queen Leah in Medieval France during the 14th century. She was invited to a celebration along with her Three Good Fairies: Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. Angry over not being invited, Maleficent casts a spell, promising that before sunset on Aurora’s 16th birthday, she’ll prick her finger on a spinning wheel’s spindle and die. Leah was horrified and rushed to her baby, and an enraged Stefan ordered his guards to arrest Maleficent, but she disappeared with a laugh in a plume of smoke. She left everyone horrified and worried about the princess’s doomed future. Although, Aurora wouldn’t die from the prick of her finger, but only sleep until her true love awakens her with a kiss.
Beauty and the Beast (1991)
A beautiful young peasant woman named Belle lives in a nearby village with her father, Maurice, who is an inventor. Belle is seen as “odd” due to her preference for reading books by the other townsfolk. One day, Maurice rides off to a fair with his invention, but he gets lost and loses his horse. He stumbles across a mysterious castle, enters it, and meets the enchanted household items, and the Beast. The Beast is enraged by Maurice and is going to throw him out and let him get eaten by wolves, but instead, he takes it upon himself to lock him in a dungeon in the castle tower. After Belle realizes that her father is missing, she sets out to look for him and eventually comes across the Beast’s castle. The Beast found her and led her to the dungeon. They make a deal; the Beast lets her father go if Belle stays in the castle forever.
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
In this film, a young girl named Tiana and her mother are visiting her best friend’s family in New Orleans. Tiana’s dream was to have her own restaurant just like her father. Even after her father passed away, she held onto her dream and worked two jobs to save money for a place, with little time for friends or fun. One night, Charlotte found out a prince named Naveen was coming to town and decided to invite him to a social function at her family’s mansion. That night, they got dressed in beautiful dresses, but Tiana wasn’t feeling it and she decided to wish on a shooting star, but nothing happened… or so she thought. A talking frog appeared in her room and at first, she was terrified but when she listened to the frog, she understood what happened. Prince Naveen was turned into a frog by Dr. Facilier and needed to be kissed to be turned back into a prince. Tiana was not having it, but reluctantly she kissed him… and she turned into a frog as well.
ICONIC CHARACTERS
Disney is a popular fandom most common amongst the younger generations. One that seems to be more nostalgic with infants and toddlers is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. As for my generation, we grew up on Winnie The Pooh and the original Mickey Mouse. Every Generation has known about Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Winnie the Pooh since they were young and probably still do.

He received a comic book and later it became a work that helped develop Walt Disney's comics and stories. One of his greatest pieces was Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold, which became the best-selling of 1940-1950s. He helped grow the career of Carl Barks also known as the “good duck”.

Mickey Mouse could be considered the face of Walt Disney since he was shown to the world. He is the main character from the show Mickey Mouse Clubhouse which came out on May 5, 2006, and ended on November 6, 2016. He has been featured in 23 films and 10 million posts on Instagram. In 1929 Mickey's first words were “Hot dogs!” after he also did a hot dog dance. They didn't know Mickey could talk until he said these words; they just knew that he laughed and screamed but did not talk until he said those words.

Winnie the Pooh is from the show Winnie-the-Pooh which also involves 7 other characters. The date of birth is August 21, 1921. Winnie was based on a real-life bear who lived in the London Zoo which was in Canada. An interesting fact is that Winnie is not a boy but a girl named after the black bear which was also a girl bear. The real-life bear craved sugary foods like condensed milk just like Winnie craves honey. Christopher Robin is the boy in the show, He named his teddy Winnie after seeing the actual bear in the London Zoo.
