Joshua Matthews is the Director of Bands at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada. Mr. Matthews’ responsibilities at Coronado include teaching 3 Concert Ensembles, 3 Jazz Bands, The Marching Band, Athletic Pep Bands, Chamber Groups, Music Theory, overseeing the Winterguard and Indoor Percussion Ensembles & conducting the Spring Musical Pit Orchestra. Under his direction, the Coronado High School Marching Band performed at the 2023 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C, the Coronado High School Wind Ensemble performed in Carnegie Hall in 2024, and in 2025 an invitation was extended to them to perform at The Festival of Gold in Seattle, Washington. The Coronado High School Wind Ensemble will be performing at Symphony Hall in Chicago Illinois, in the Percy Grainger Festival in March of 2026.
In 2018, Joshua Matthews received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and his Master of Arts in Music Education from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2020. While at the University of Alabama, Mr. Matthews served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for both the Music Education and the University Band Departments. As a part of the University Bands Staff, he assisted the directors during football games, recruiting events, and rehearsals for the 400+ member University of Alabama Million Dollar Marching Band. He also directed University Pep Bands at several sporting events throughout the year, taught undergraduate music education courses, and served as Graduate Conducting Assistant for the University of Alabama Concert Band.
In addition to his duties at Coronado High School, Mr. Matthews has served as a guest clinician/conductor in events in and outside of Las Vegas, and is the All-State High School Band Chairperson for the Nevada Music Educators Association.
