At the 2022 African American History Challenge our elected bsu members showed out and demolished the competition. They took first place in the challenge, showing how knowledgeable on African American topics they were. they beat Arbor View High School to take 1st place, $1,000 in prize money and a beautiful trophy to show off on campus. Upon winning those who participated were invited for various interviews as pictured above.
On February 10, 2022 members of black Greek lettered organizations that reign within the national Pan-Hellenic council came out to talk to our BSU students about college life, being Greek and the importance of education. Bsu members were able to ask questions they deemed important to the members and got the chance to gain a mentorship relationship with those in attendance who are also hard working members of the Las Vegas community.
On November 20,2021 BSU volunteered with Opportunity village from 10am-2pm. Members and advisors assisted with completing contract assignments based on orders opportunity village was given. It was a heart warming and humble experience to assist this company with their duties.
At the November 18, 2021 bsu meeting we had the pleasure of having a guest speaker from the University of Nevada, Reno. We were given the chance to learn about UNR's Nevada Scholars of Tomorrow program dedicated to increasing diversity and expounding enrollment to minority youth.
The African American student summit took place at arbor view high school on November 8, 2021 and included fellow school's bsu members from across the valley. Various breakouts were held to inform, inspire and promote cultural growth to our students. Centennial's BSU members showed up and showed out at the summit!
BSU put out two amazing and highly visited booths at the harvest festival. The booths also served as a fundraiser for the club where participants gave tickets to play our pong style game and shoot some hoops. Many members helped set up, run and take down the booths at this successful event. We are so proud of the work our members put in this night!
During our "Week of Respect" we decided to ask the students, What Does Respect Mean? Many students wrote a response while we also indulged in a game a four square, where students and staff had loads of fun.
Our E-Board riding on our candyland themed homecoming float on September 4, 2021. The members created and assembled the float all by themselves in support of our centennial bulldogs battling the legacy longhorns.
