About Our Program
SB-IIS was established during the 2013–2014 school year. SB-IIS utilizes an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) approach. It is designed to be a temporary support addressing basic contingencies of reinforcement to teach learning how to learn skills (attending, responding, communicative intent, etc.) to increase independence and the student's ability to improve access to education. It may also address social-behavioral skills (frustration tolerance, stress management, reduction of self-stimulatory behaviors, etc.). Session programming targets identified goals in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and it is intended to be a short term intervention. The end goal is for the student to generalize skills learned across all settings.
SB-IIS services are provided by highly trained Autism Family Support and Intensive Behavior Technician staff with the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification, and are supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). Services address the goals and benchmarks identified in the IEP relating to social-behavior and functional communication skills. SB-IIS services is not a tutoring program for academics and is only intended to address specific learning how to learn skill deficits in the school setting.
SB-IIS services is provided individually for students in the school environment. Services may be provided inside the classroom or in another location on the school campus. Students typically engage in services for one hour per day.
Assessment Process
SB-IIS is a district-managed resource, not a service provided to all students in their schools or classrooms.
The referral and assessment process follows a structured procedure to determine the need for SB-IIS services.
The School-Based Individual Intervention Services Referral Form can be submitted by school staff at the request of the student's parents/guardians and educational team.
BCBAs conduct SB-IIS assessments.
The assessment results are shared with the IEP team, including the parent/guardian.
