Picking Iowa Lakes Classes
If you plan on going to Iowa Lakes for a certain program, pick classes that will fulfill some of your degree requirements.
Iowa Lakes also has several transfer programs to help you get your general education requirements out of the way while giving you an introduction to some classes in your major.
Most classes will transfer as at least elective credit, but you probably want to try to pick classes that will fulfill general education requirements at the college you plan to attend.
The Iowa Lakes A.A. and A.S. degree sheets are a great place to start (although colleges usually have slightly different gen ed requirements).
If you go to Iowa Lakes and get your A.A. or A.S. and then transfer to a four-year college, the four-year college usually assumes all of your gen eds have been met.
If you don't get a two-year degree but transfer classes in, they usually try to match each class up - sometimes they match up and sometimes they don't. Again, most classes will at least transfer as electives.
You can also try to pick classes that you know will transfer to the college of your choosing. Iowa Lakes has transfer agreements with several colleges, and these colleges have tools to help you pick classes that will match up with their gen ed requirements.
General Education Requirements for Colleges
Keep in mind some majors have different gen ed requirements. The ones listed below are usually the liberal arts gen ed requirements.
I do not recommend taking science and math classes online as these are usually easier to learn in a face-to-face setting with the opportunity to see examples, do labs, and frequently ask questions.
