Appropriate size and scope:
Is it probably doable in ~40 hours?
It’s okay to dream big, don’t start too small
Shouldn't be doable in one weekend
Student-driven and organized:
Is it something that you want to do for yourself?
Are you handling most of the logistics and organization?
Are you figuring out what to do next, or is someone else?
Navigating uncertainty:
Do you have ~80% chance of success in doing this?
Are there parts of the Quest that you don’t know how to do?
Is it fun and challenging to work on?
Quest is a unique program of our Upper School, where we ask students to engage in independent exploration projects during each of their Upper School years. You can choose to do something new every single year, or you can choose to work on the same topic all four years, or anywhere in between.
If we have to sum it up, Quest is your chance to push yourself to try something new, be curious, and figure things out along the way.
The best way to approach Quest is with a sense of playfulness and an expectation that things will get messy and uncertain at times. Don't worry - this is exactly what should happen if you've picked a good Quest! Getting stuck is okay! We're here to help you get un-stuck and help you get through those frustrating times. We've got you!
Most importantly, remember that Quest is driven by the student. There are many other expectations and pressures of what you should do with your time, but Quest is about carving out time and space in your life to do something fun and messy. It might help to think about Quest as a student-driven extracurricular -- advocate for time to do what you want! We're here to support you, but ultimately it's your Quest journey.
Lost? Confused? Stuck? That's a natural part of the process -- you are, after all, navigating the unknown.
Here are just a few of the ways you can get support during your Quest
