The aim of mixing this song is to:
Understand how to create a remix of a popular track.
Refine how to use the editing features of a Digital Audio Workstation
Continue learning how to manipulate samples to allow you to be creative
STEP 1: Listen to the full mixes
Listen to the full mixes below and think about how you can remix or mash the two tracks together. Click the links to listen below.
Then answer this question. Are you going to remix the song or create a mashup of the two songs?
Do you know the differences between a remix and a mash up? Click the link below to find some inspiration and examples of a remix and a mash up.
STEP 2: Set up your Logic Pro project
Start up your project and make sure your key is in Gm as that is what the key of the songs are.
This was done intentionally to ensure both songs sounded good when remixing them, or if you want to mash them both together, they won't sound 'off' in tonality.
Tempo
127bpm for Where Did You Go and 118bpm for I Miss You.
If you are mashing the two songs together, you would need to use the Flex time to make both songs match tempo. If you forgot how to do this, follow this handy guide on YouTube.
STEP 2: Input your beat and samples
Using the links again (located below for your convenience), start downloading your samples. First, you will need a beat:
For the I Miss You track, there is a drum kit and percussion that you can use.
For the Where Did You Go, there are more samples to use on the drums including on shots, full grooves and loops
You could use the Where Did You Go beats in the Adele song for the mash up.
You might wish to use a new beat entirely - Look at the loops on Apple, or make your own beat
You may want to use the percussion and the drum kit from the I Miss You song and cut it up the sample. Below is a video on how to chop up a sample to use in your remix
How to chop up samples in Logic Pro X - A step by step guide.
Then start to think about the other elements of the song
You will need to add a bassline whether it would be from the Adele track, the MNEK song or one you have made up entirely.
If you make one up yourself, you will need to maintain the G Minor key signature. The notes that you will have to use are next to you.
Bb is the black note between the A and the B.
Eb is the black note between D and E
If you are going to use loops from Bandlab etc, then it is also vital to ensure the key of the loops is in G minor. How would you do this is click the key arrow which drops down. Then you will click the G and then the minor. This filters out the other samples that wont fit exactly into the track. See right for a visual example >>

STEP 3: Think about your structure
What structure are you going to include for the track? Below is the structure for the MNEK song showing how many bars each part is. The orange boxes are the indication that is where the part comes in e.g. the strings and Pads come in at the Introduction and stay until the drop. Then it drops out until the Chorus until the end.
Notice how the parts don't always come in at the same time or at the very start of the song.
You could use this to help you structure your remix or help you know where to mash it up. Perhaps you could use this as inspiration if you are stuck.
Don't forget, you could add your own samples in
