Mr. Kenton Joseph was born and raised in central Trinidad. He describes himself as driven, spiritual and goal-oriented. The third of six children, he realised early in life that hard work was his only way out of his socio-economic bind.

Benefits of the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in Secondary Schools

The Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) is a programme that was initiated in 2006, after which a decision was taken by CARICOM, which mandated member states to address the inadequacies of the existing TVET programmes offered and to introduce an alternative throughout the region.

The NTA’s Centre and Programme Approval Criteria

The National Training Agency (NTA) has reviewed the Criteria used for the approval of TVET providers desirous of establishing a rigorous management system for training and assessment. As a result, there are now three (3) criteria that Training providers can use.

Benefits and Uses of the RoA

The Record of Achievement (RoA) is a TVET transcript that lists all of the Trinidad and Tobago National Vocational Qualifications (TTNVQs) and Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQs) awarded to the graduate over their years of training.

The National Training Agency (NTA) collaborates with the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago (ECTT) to promote National Occupational Standards (NOS)

The NTA and the ECTT, along with the Energy Sector Advisory Committee (SAC), came together to share information on the “Adoption of Occupational Standards for the Energy Sector,” and discuss the impact of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) on the sector.

Benefits and Uses of Labour Market Reports

The NTA provides valid, timely data and informational reports on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). These reports benefit job seekers, employers, training providers, policymakers and the general public.

Learn A Skill With Me - A Kid's Edu-tainment Online Series

As the titleholder for TVET, the NTA conceptualised the “Learn A Skill With Me” initiative, which seeks to expose students to simple technical and vocational concepts. The intention is to reinforce the values of soft and craft skills to young learners and introduce pupils to a range of non-traditional career paths. It is envisioned that, at a minimum, it will equip them with a basic understanding of varied TVET occupations and provide an opportunity for pupils to experiment and develop new skills.

“Learn A Skill With Me” is a pre-recorded 10-minute ‘edutainment’ segment that targets primary school students in Standards 1 and 2 (ages 8 – 10); it features primary school teachers and trainers conducting presentations, demonstrations and discussions on simple TVET concepts. The “Learn A Skill With Me” edutainment series premiered on the NTA’s social media platforms in September 2022. The first ten (10) episodes are expected to run weekly during term 1 in the academic year 2022/2023.

View the NTA's Youth Development in TVET Series

As the NTA forges ahead to promote TVET as a primary option for learners, and simultaneously reduce any associated negative stigma, the NTA's "Youth Development in TVET" series encourages learners to choose Vocational Education as a primary option in career development, Entrepreneurship and Digital TVET. The series aims to strengthen the TVET sector through the sharing of relevant information and practice by the Youth population.
