Common Terms Defined
Artificial Intelligence (AI) - The simulation of human mental processes done by a machine or computer.
Machine learning - The ability of a computer system to learn and improve from experience.
Deep Learning - A subset of machine learning consisting of neural networks with multiple layers.
Neural network - Brain-inspired computing system that trains machines to recognize patterns and predict outcomes.
Language Model - A statistical tool that analyses patterns in large amounts of text and learns how words fit together.
Natural language processing - Computer capability to understand and generate language akin to humans.
Generative AI - AI that uses machine learning algorithms that enable machines to create new data or media - such as video, images, text, and audio - based on the features of its training data.
Chatbot - A software application designed to hold a conversation with human users.
GPT - A machine learning model that uses a many layered neural network (with some layers pre-trained and some fine-tuned to perform a specific task) that can read and write with human language (ChatGPT)
Generative - Generates natural human language text through prediction
Pretrained - It has been pre-trained on massive amounts of digital data (date updated) and does not have an ongoing long-term memory that learns from each interaction
Transformer - Statistical model that captures regularities in a data in clever an complicated ways.
