Preschool

Q&A

How do children become a part of our preschool program?

Children who qualify for special education services will receive services at Norris. The IEP team will determine the best placement for you child based on their needs. Otherwise, students can apply for Preschool in the fall.  Click the link at the top of this page to apply.

If your child is kindergarten eligible he/she is not eligible for preschool.  Determinations will take place by the end of  January, and contact will be made by the school regarding enrollment for the next school year. Preschool applications are on a lottery system, and are not taken in the order received. You must currently reside in the Norris School District to be considered for preschool placement.

What time is Preschool?

Our morning class is from 8:30-11:30 and our afternoon class is from 12:15-3:15.

Are transportation services offered for my preschooler?

Transportation is offered only for students who qualify for special education services.

What will my child learn?

Second Step

Second Step is our social/emotional curriculum where we focus on  naming our emotions, practice our daily skills of listening, following directions, sharing and fair ways to play! You can learn more here!

GOLD Teaching Strategies Assessment

GOLD assessment is a state wide assessment that  allows our preschool teaching staff to assess each child in all areas of development to better understand each student's level of achievement and progress.

What does a typical day at Preschool look like?

Play time

The preschool day begins with choice time where students are able to play in multiple areas such as blocks, art, dramatic play and explore science and sensory materials.

Circle time

This is our large group time when we discuss our schedule for the day,  sing songs, talk about the letter of the week, second step skills, share stories,  and practice hands on learning such as counting objects, building shapes and letters!

Small Group

Small group time is when the class is split into 2 or 3 groups and we focus on more in depth content such as writing and identifying letters, math skills and art projects.

Story time

Story time takes place with the entire group as the teacher reads aloud.  This is when we practice learning the characters of the story, retelling the story with reasonable accuracy and introduce the jobs of the author and illustrator!

Snack

Norris provides healthy snacks everyday! At this time, we focus on language skills such as taking turns with conversations, using our manners, and practice independence (cleaning up their area, throwing items away, and washing hands).

Outside time

Preschool plays  for 30 minutes in a fenced in area on the playground with play structures, sand, swings,  a large area to run and ride trikes and  play with their friends!

What does my child need to bring?

Each preschooler should have a backpack, a  change of clothes (just in case!),  and a 1.5  inch binder for us to keep your preschoolers best work!

How much does it cost for my child to attend Preschool?

The monthly tuition for our preschool program is $150/month and is paid August through May.  This fee is waived for students who are currently on an Individualized Education Plan.

The snack fee is $50/per semester ( 2x/year). All preschoolers will pay this fee.  If you feel that you quality for for free and reduced lunch, please fill out this form.
