Mr. Mancabelli SCIENCE

What is that thing?  Is it dangerous?  How big is it?   Hey guess what - you just started a scientific inquiry discussion!   That is a paramecium.  It is a microscopic, single-celled organism that lives just about anywhere there is water.

Scientific inquiry is the basis most all the scientific discoveries made in the last 8,000 years!!!   How do you think early humans learned how to hunt?  They had to figure it out.  Some weapons worked, others did not.  Building the Pyramids in at Gaza???  In the Yucatan?  In Peru?  Even building something like that takes questions ( inquiry ), trial and error and quite a bit of thought!   Part of what I want to do in our science classes is get you guys to ask questions.  Try to figure things out.  THINK!!!!!   Thinking leads to learning.  And learning is far different from remembering.  Lots of times adults will tell you to "think" when you make a mistake, or need to study for a test, need to remember something etc... That's not always easy to do, especially for young teens.  It's just not!  My hope is to help you figure that out.  And you will!!!!    As I will repeat MANY MANY times this year - THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS!!!!  ASK ME - IT'S HOW WE LEARN!   And I want you all to become active learners not just kids that can memorize stuff.  What happens if you don't have a great memory?  Does that make you dumb because you can't remember some stuff and don't do well on a test?  Absolutely not!!!!   Science can  help build your confidence because it can show you a way to problem solve, see different points of view, ask questions that solve issues - makes your brain expand!

Think!    Reflect!    Solve!    Help!
