FAQ

How long may a child keep a library book before returning it?

We encourage students to exchange their books weekly. However, students may keep a book for two weeks before it is considered overdue. Books that students are still reading may be renewed, unless other children are waiting for the book.

What do I do if my child can't find his or her library book?

First of all, relax. Most times books are not really lost - just misplaced. Often children cannot remember the title of the book they've checked out. And it's tricky to find a book when you're not sure what you're looking for!

Since children come to the library only once a week, I usually allow them to take home a new book even if they haven't brought theirs back. I send along a print-out of their account so that you know the title of the book that needs to be returned.

If the book is truly lost, we charge a replacement fee of $18.00, unless we can order the book for less than this amount.

My child lost a book. May I purchase the replacement book?

We ask that you send in a check rather than buy a replacement book. We purchase only hardcover library edition books for the library, through a vendor that delivers books all ready to upload to our circulation system. It is more difficult to manually add a title to our program and print bar code labels for books from other vendors.
