Further Questions:
How can I incorporate vocal samples or even my own voice into the beats?
How does beat production between different genres relate?
What are some techniques to make the music production process easier and more efficient?
Since my last update, which was mainly centered around watching videos and strengthening my fundamentals in music production, I really focused on actually making the beats. I used the sampling knowledge that I learned from the video linked below to take a sample I found on youtube and flip it into a beat. I already had a drum pack filled with drum sounds like claps and hi-hats which I arranged for the drums. Some difficulty I faced when making the beat was arranging the sample so it was on the beat (the right BPM), but I was finally able to by using the BPM match tool in Logic Pro X. With this specific beat, I wanted to make a hyper pop genre beat which I think I was successful in doing. Through this process, I learned a lot about the tools in logic which make sampling easier, and how to get the 808s to match the pitch of the sample. I also was able to work on my skills with programming drums, and using real-life loops (i used key jangling sounds in the background) to give the beat more excitement. My favorite part about making this beat was creating the drops at the beginning, and throughout the beat with the use of risers and drum fills which makes the bass come in harder. One thing I want to note is that making this beat was very tedious and took a long time, so I definitely want to find ways to make it quicker without sacrificing the sound.
