Physical education is a place where great character development can occur - character development that will transfer into the academic arena as well as other areas in one's life. I hope that all of the students that I teach in physical education classes will gain a true enjoyment of athletics as well as an increase in their self-esteem, while learning to be a positive member of a team. I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes, because we know that through mistakes, we can reflect and work harder to do better next time. Physical education classes are additionally an opportunity for students to create their own goals that are challenging yet attainable with hard work. I encourage my students to come up with goals so that they can see their own improvement throughout the year. I want the students to understand that their improvement and achievements are directly related to their diligence. Neary students will be introduced to new sports and learn more advanced skills in sports that they already know. My hope is by the time the students have "graduated" Neary, they will feel good about themselves, support their classmates, and think back to their years here as an enjoyable time where they learned a lot!
