Think about the statement..."In Aerospace, the sky is not the limit, it's a better view" while you read the rest of this small expose.
We've said it before, Aerospace is anything and everything that flies. "Aero" from Aviation i.e. "Aeroplanes" and Space from, you guessed it "Space," put them together and you get the systems, machines, supporting structures, the people and the engineers that make it all possible.
Here we are with another installment of Aerospace In The Caribbean, as we strive to "Expose and Inpire Generations in Aerospace." We truly hope you have benefited from the past forums and are looking forward to the upcoming.
We hope this forum continues to live up to the hype of the past forums. as we provide a glimpse into the careers of various Aerospace professionals and from time-to-time professionals in other fields as we Expose and Inspire generations in Aerospace. Think about this as another "Take your Caribbean to work" event.
Here at AIC, we encourage early involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), STEM to engineering with the ultimate goal of engineering into Aerospace.
Similar to previous, this is a virtual STEM outreach event that targets 14 - 19-year-olds but also can provide insights for all generations looking to opportunities in Aerospace and beyond, as many of these careers apply to other industries.
Congratulations! You are taking an active interest in your future, your community and your Caribbean, the difference continues to be YOU.
I'm a Space Systems Engineer with a passion for research and environmental preservation. I have a a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Master of Engineering in Space Systems Engineering and an Executive Master of Global Management in Space Business, Leadership & Policy. Wow, that's a lot right! I'll get back to that shortly...
I grew up in Trinidad and Tobago. I can remember looking up to starry skys and thinking "that's where I belong." With my destination in mind, I set out on my journey.
Here's a little more of how that worked out...I've been repeatedly awarded for exceptional research and leadership prowess, for example the School of Systems and Enterprises Best Master Thesis Award for 2020 and the Cultural Vistas Alumni Impact Award 2022. I'm also recipient of a number of U.S. government fellowships including the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Fellowship and the John S. McCain Strategic Defense Fellowship where I've worked on a number of efforts at the U.S. Space Force Chief Scientist's Office.
I'm now CEO and Chief Engineer at Paterson Aerospace Systems, a company creating a sustainable approach to space exploration through research and development. It's hard, even for me, to imagine where I began from where I am now.
There's so much more to my story and my journey, but you'll have to attend the forum to get the rest of it,
See you there!!
Born at the Nuttall Memorial Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. I grew up around trucks, grease, tyres and troubleshooting with the guys. I’ve always been the kind of person who was going to learn everything.
My parents instilled the importance of hard work, striving for excellence, perseverance, and resilience, which, I believe, ultimately became the foundation for everything I've accomplished.
I graduated the University of Technology, Jamaica, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Life then led me to the Norman Manely international Airport (NMIA) in 2007 to assist with the terminal expansion project. which is where I fell in love with both engineering and the various forms it can take, and with how aviation and engineering both need each other.
From Resident Engineer of the NMIA Expansion Project, to Computer Maintenance Management System Engineer, to Safety Analyst, to Environment & Quality Manager, to Director of Maintenance, I have been on the airport and in the aviation industry for 18 years.
I don't believe there are traditional routes to success anymore as our grandparents and those before them thought. The world is now at our fingertips, it is for us to want to make something of it for ourselves, in our own way, and make ourselves happy.
There's a saying, "love what you do and it won't matter what anyone else is doing."
