Are you asking the question "What do I want to do next?" or how about "What could I do next? or even "What's out there to do?" These questions could apply wherever you are in your career path. If so, we have another installment of our Aerospace In The Caribbean (AIC) virtual Forum that may help you with the answer you're looking for.
These forums provide a glimpse into the careers of Engineers, Aerospace professionals and from time-to-time professionals in other fields as we Expose and Inspire generations in Aerospace. Think about this as a "Take your Caribbean to work" event.
Here at AIC, we encourage early involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), STEM to engineering with the ultimate goal of engineering into Aerospace.
Similar to previous, this is a virtual STEM outreach event that targets 13 - 19-year-olds but also can provide insights for all generations looking to opportunities in Aerospace and beyond, as many of these careers apply to other industries. As a little encouragement, for the target audience, there could be prizes.
Congratulations! You are taking an active interest in your future, your community and your Caribbean, the difference truly is YOU.
As always, "In Aerospace, the sky is not the limit, it's a better view."
My name is Chavonne Bowen, and I am from Bridgetown, Barbados. My earliest exposure to Aviation began with connecting with aviation professionals through site visits to the Barbados Light Aeroplane Club, the Concorde Experience, and the Grantley Adams International Airport.
On one visit, I recall learning about the roles and responsibilities of a team of engineers during their tests and inspection of a 747- 400 freight airliner which left me curious about other possible career paths like aviation engineering. I began thinking about: What factors are involved in flight safety? How do planes operate? What is the flight design process? How can we improve flight systems to prevent further accidents? Where do I start in becoming an aerospace professional? These questions and experiences guided me in my decision-making as I began by taking CXC courses in Technical drawing, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics on my path toward a career in Aerospace.
After graduating from the St. Michael School in Barbados, I attended the United World College in Montezuma, New Mexico, where my first experience with Aerospace was with my physics class project on motion through rocket propulsion.
Currently, I am a doctoral student at Howard University where my research focus is on Compressible Aerodynamics.
I look forward to sharing my journey in Aerospace with you!
I'm Marc Aubourg, orignally from Les Cayes (pronounced "le kaI"), Haiti and I've always been driven by a curiosity to understand how things work.
My journey began with a curiousity about bicycle dynamos, remote-controlled cars and with many steps since then, it eventually led to a career in Systems Engineering.
My academic foundation was laid with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, followed by a Master's degree focusing on Game Design and Development. Now, with over a decade of experience, I have focused on developing efficient, reliable, and safe systems as a Systems Engineer utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods. and tools.
In facing the complex challenges of the aerospace industry, I like to think I apply practicality and precision, often employing advanced modeling and simulation techniques.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with new engineers, hoping to inspire those interested in Aerospace and to foster their understanding of the various engineering disciplines.
I've done it, you can do it too. The journey looks scary until you start with a never give up attitude.
