Art students started with lessons in creating the elements of line, and value. They completed practice worksheets to help them refine their skills including how to grid draw. Next, Mrs. Fortney took pictures of their shoes & legs and printed copies in grayscale. Students then created a 1" grid over their photo and recreated the grid onto drawing paper. They drew their image using contour lines and noting various value shifts. Once the outline was completed, they were able to learn how to use transfer paper to get their image onto their final piece of drawing paper. Last, they added a minimum of 7 different values and included shadows and any finishing details.
Students learned about the artist, Paul Klee and his use of line, shape, and color to create Abstract Art. They used his work, "Once Emerged from the Gray of Night" as their inspiration and created a design using their names. They chose the size of the segments, their positive vs. negative use of space, and learned about creating a pattern by repeating a color scheme which evokes a mood when viewing.
Can you see their names or did they abstract the letters enough to fool you???
