NRS Art Class
About Me:
My name is Amber Fortney and I live in Bowdon with my husband (Jacob), son (Jaxon), daughter (Dayvah), hedgehog (Prickles), and our two Boston Terriers (Ruka & Ziggy).
I started teaching art at Fessenden-Bowdon school in 2019 and I am so excited to continue to expand art into the New Rockford-Sheyenne school! This year, I will be teaching 6-12 art classes at New Rockford-Sheyenne school on Tues. & Thurs. and K-12 art classes in Fessenden on Mon., Wed., & Fri. so I will be busy!
Art has always been my passion and I took classes from 7-12th grade, and received my AA & AS from BSC, along with a BA with a minor in Interior Design from NDSU. I graduated in May of 2023 with a Master's in Teaching for Art from VCSU and am happy to finally be done with graduate school....for now.
In my classes, students learn fine art with a focus on the elements of art and principles of design. We look at a variety of artists, styles, and techniques while using many different materials throughout the year. Students participate in a class critique upon completion of projects and their artwork is all photographed, hung in the hallways, and uploaded into their Artsonia accounts (digital portfolio).
Big Ideas & Concepts learned in my class:
*Learn color schemes and how colors can communicate a feeling
*Understand basic art concepts and how famous artists used them
*Communication through art
*Elements of Art & Design Principles
*Understanding the color wheel and mixing colors
*Watercolor techniques and demonstration
*Perspective and the use of space
*Observation and grid drawings
*Art History and 6 major art movements
*Exploring our limits to enhance creativity
*Creating a line drawing from values in a photograph
*Understanding 6 basic compositional rules and how to apply them
