Free Activities & Interactives for Families from EiE Families
EiE Families, from the Museum of Science, Boston, has released several new activities and interactive introductions to our at-home engineering and computer science activities. These brief online experiences introduce families to the engineering design process and important ideas in computer science, so they are ready to try out our hands-on activities with confidence. All EiE Families resources, including the new online introductions and the hands-on activities, are available for free in both English and Spanish at: https://families.eie.org/activities/at-home.
"EiE Families" is an online platform created by the Museum of Science, Boston's "Engineering is Elementary" (EiE) curriculum division, offering free, interactive activities for families with children ages 4-11 to learn engineering and computer science concepts at home, designed to foster creativity and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities.
This success reflects the district’s commitment to excellence in science instruction, supported by its strategic partnership with KnowAtom, a Massachusetts-based provider of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)-aligned K-8 science curricula. KnowAtom’s innovative, hands-on approach empowers educators to engage students in inquiry-based learning, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of scientific concepts. By integrating NGSS-based practices into classroom instruction, North Reading’s educators have cultivated a learning environment that inspires curiosity and prepares students to excel in science and beyond. This accomplishment highlights the district's dedication to nurturing future-ready learners equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
All Massachusetts students will have an equitable, comprehensive STEM education that fosters a positive STEM identity and enables them to apply their learning to thrive in their everyday lives and participate in informed civic engagement.
In the North Reading School District, our vision for STEM education is to inspire and empower students to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators who are equipped to thrive in a dynamic and interconnected world. We prioritize equitable access to high-quality STEM learning experiences that foster creativity, collaboration, and curiosity. Through interdisciplinary exploration and hands-on, experiential learning, we aim to cultivate a diverse pipeline of future scientists, engineers, technologists, and mathematicians to navigate and excel in a diverse and ever-evolving job market, contributing meaningfully to society and shaping the future. Our vision emphasizes the development of digital, scientific, mathematical, and data literacies in preparation for careers in a diverse workforce and for careers that are unimagined.
