Hello there! My name is Dustin Wood and I am proud to serve as the choral director for Norfolk High School. As an alumnus of Norfolk Public Schools, I attended Midland University as a K-12 Vocal/Instrumental Music Education student. I currently attend Liberty University where I am working on my Masters in Music Education. While in college I was the president of the Midland University NMEA chapter, a member of SEAN and Blue Key Honor Society, drumline section leader, a technical theatre and worship arts work study, and a student accompanist for choir. In my first year of teaching, I was the general music and choir director for Norfolk Middle School. On June 13th, 2015, I had the privilege of marrying my wife, Darienne, who teaches 1st grade at Christ Lutheran. We are proud parents of our daughters Emberly and Rowena and our 2 cats, Mina and Lola.
In addition to getting to spend every day making music at school, I enjoy spending my time playing bass and piano for church, playing for/directing musicals, woodworking, being a nerd and writing music. I am also a member of NMEA, NSEA, NESA, NCDA, and ASCAP. I am looking forward to a great year of making music at Norfolk Senior High!
My name is Sharen Luhr. This is my eigth year of being the accompanist for Norfolk Senior High. I am a graduate of Wayne State College where I earned my bachelor and master’s degrees in music, business education and educational administration. I taught vocal music for 34 years and was an elementary principal for 9 years before moving to Norfolk. My husband was a band director for 40 years and is now retired. I love spending time with my husband, our three children and six grandchildren who are the light of my life. In addition to making music, some of my favorite activities are reading, sewing, and baking.
We have a great group of students here at NHS who work hard to achieve their musical goals. It is my great pleasure to be able to help them in their musical endeavors. I’m looking forward to another outstanding year of choral performances at NHS!
