This class will be a workshop class. During the semester or year, you will make one film, either documentary or fiction narrative. I will provide assignments for you to complete along the way to guide you and to have benchmarks to completion.
Whenever you complete an assignment, we will critique it as a class. I expect you to listen to criticism, take notes, and apply them to your next assignments. In reverse, I expect you to provide constructive feedback for your classmates.
You will be placed in a crew of 4. You will write, direct, and produce your own film and serve as a crew or cast on your crewmates’ projects.
Understand that there are no “failures” in your filmmaking projects. If you experiment with a new technique and it doesn’t pan out, I will never see that as low quality. Your ability to self-evaluate what worked and what didn’t will be more important than the product.
We - the entire class - will respect you even more for trying something new and putting your work out there.
So do not be afraid. We will support you in your artistic venture. As such, I expect you to support your classmates in trying new things as well.
