Established in 1994, the Japanese intercultural exchange with Fukui Prefecture has been the only continuous international exchange program at New Providence High School. New Providence High School has had the distinction of hosting an annual Cultural and Science Exchange since 2009. Every October, about 25 Japanese students travel to New Providence to share culture, science, and friendship with our students and community.
Our exchange program is more than just a visit—it’s a living bridge between two cultures. Students gain:
Cultural Understanding – Learning traditions, customs, and everyday life in Japan and the U.S.
Scientific Collaboration – Sharing research, STEM activities, and classroom experiences.
Language Growth – Practicing both English and Japanese in real-world settings.
Friendship & Connection – Building lifelong bonds that cross oceans.
Home Visits – Japanese students visit NPHS families, experiencing American life.
Cultural Exchange – From Japanese art and cooking to American culture presentation.
Science Exchange – Classroom visits, collaborative presentations, and STEM activities.
