Longtime North Pocono Track and Field Coach Passes

posted April 19, 2020

Inevitably, there are many people that will formulate a person's identity. In this case it was also going to define the Track and Field program at North Pocono. Without a doubt, longtime Track and Field coach Walter Godek was one of those individuals that shaped the lives of many student-athletes as the former head coach of North Pocono's Track and Field team. It is with great sadness that he passed away April 18th, 2020. Many former NP athletes can recall what a great motivating and compassionate person Coach Godek was. When you gave your best, it was all that he could ask for, as winning became a secondary routine from that simple message. He will be surely missed by many.

NP Track and Field Family,

I miss everyone on our team, and hope this finds you well. I just wanted to send a message to remain POSITIVE!

As we all know, the last few weeks have been different. We've been working from home, learning from home, and communicating from home. This is a very unique time in history with no telling how long Covid-19 will continue to impact our lives. I hope everyone is staying well and healthy! Currently, the school year has been pushed online for the vast majority of students and teachers across the country, and spring sports have been put on hold. I don't envy how you must feel at this point in time, as if all our hard work and preparation is slipping away.

Track and Field brings us together. Yes, we compete and practice just about everyday, but the camaraderie and team uniqueness is unlike any other sports. Training in the cold, sometimes indoors, pushing and encouraging each other to the max, enjoying the trials and tribulations of track, or simply trying to get the most out of our training, bonds all of us together in this unique sport.

But we also need to ensure our safety until our state and federal governments figure out a way to control this pandemic. That might leave a void in our lives for athletic competition and a support for our teammates in the sport we love, but soon enough I believe we'll get back to normal, too.

In the meantime, I wanted to share some sites for some of you that are looking to train on your own or read a little on your particular event:

NP Track and Field Family,

I hope this finds everyone well.

First, I want to say that I truly miss the Track and Field Family that we have come to know and enjoy. Many of you can recall this year’s theme for our program - Building I.T. For those that have forgotten, our “I” stands for Integrity; our “T” stands for Trust. More than ever, we need these values for our program; yet, more importantly for each other.

Obviously, this event is unprecedented and beyond our control. The most important role we can play at this moment is to heed the advice of our health care professionals and leaders. While I appreciate the suggestions to get together to workout, we are bound by our social responsibility and the policies set forth by: the CDC, US and state government, PIAA, our administration and other agencies. While being optimistic that we will get back to normal in the near-future, we are obligated to practice these guidelines. It does not mean, however, that we cannot go outside and take a run, workout in our homes, stretch, and hydrate. We just can not do this together at the moment.

On another note, use your time to research our great sport; watch videos on throwing, jumping, hurdling, etc. or choose an article online that reinforces distance training, sprinting, or pole vaulting. Use the extra time to become more knowledgeable and menatlly stronger.

I realize these components can’t replace our team workouts, but stay engaged mentally and physically. Keep the hope that we will overcome and get back to the sport we share.

Lastly, the Fancloth window has closed and orders will be shipped in a few weeks. For those that have ordered items, I will figure out a process to get them to you once we get back to school or come up with an alternate plan if we do not.

As always, I will keep you posted. Stay safe and smart!

Sincerely,

Coach Sepkowski
