Summer Reading Grade 6
Middle School Summer Reading
Once registered, students will keep track of each book read by completing the form for their school. Students who participate will be eligible for prizes both at the library and at school in the fall.
Students and their families are encouraged to attend the All-Ages Summer Reading Kick-Off on Friday, June 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the library.

Finding a Great Book
This website lists 6th graders’ Top Ten Nutmeg Books. Students are encouraged to visit their school and library website for more recommendations. Keep in mind that students can read fiction or nonfiction, including books of poetry or short stories, narrative nonfiction, and information-al texts. These great titles and many others are available at the public library in a variety of print and audio formats.

Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko
Twelve-year-old Moose moves to Alcatraz in 1935 so his father can work as a prison guard. It is a time when the federal prison is home to notorious criminals like Al Capone. Depressed about having to leave his friends, Moose finds little to be happy about on Alcatraz. Things look up for Moose when he befriends the irresistible Pip-er, the warden's daughter, who has a knack for getting Moose into embarrassing but harmless trouble.

City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
