Promoting Digital Equity and Social Justice through the “Techsperts”: Every Student, Everywhere

Although Newington Public Schools provides technology to all students, this does not cover the other demographics of the town that do not have access to technology. Additionally, Newington is surrounded by areas where students do not have access to similar opportunities to increase digital literacy and improve their lives. For digital equity and social justice purposes, everyone needs empowering opportunities to create, produce, use, and disseminate digital tools and resources in their lives.

To expand not only the District’s technology initiative, but also to focus on digital equity and social justice in the community and surrounding areas, one of our district's buses can be converted into a technology bus. In order to help conquer the digital divide, the bus would be outfitted with various technology and student instructors from the district's "Techsperts" program to offer lessons in basic computing applications, coding, robotics, 3D printing, and beyond.
