Google Third Party Apps

In a recent update, Google changed how third party applications such are approved for all Workspace for Education accounts. All services that require students to sign up or sign in with their NPS email account are now blocked by default.

Most (but not all) digital learning resources listed as approved by Northbridge Public Schools on the Online Resources website have been preemptively allowed in the Google console. However, use of any app that is not explicitly approved on this list, will result in an error.

Example of the error: Access blocked: Your institution's admin needs to review (Name of application)

You can't access this app until an admin at your institution reviews and configures access for it. If you need access to this app, request access. Error 400: access_not_configured.

What are staff asked to do if you get the above error?

The vetting process is not instantaneous. If a Data Protection Addendum is in place within our Student Data Privacy Consortium, we can usually have one in place within a few days. If it is a new DPA, it can take weeks or even months to get a new DPA in place.

Staff will receive an automated responses regarding approval or denial of their request. The Technology Department will be notified if the requested app is approved so we can then add the application to the approved list within Google Workspace for Education.

For all other blocked third party apps that staff only need access to, please submit a help desk ticket.
