International Dark Sky Week Program just added!
If you didn't get a chance to see the moon over the weekend, get out tonight for the Super Harvest Moon!
The Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the Autumnal Equinox. This year's Harvest Moon is also a Supermoon, where the full moon occurs slightly closer to the Earth in its orbit. As a result the Moon will appear slightly larger and brighter than a normal full moon. The best view will be right at or after sunset, when the full moon is just rising over the horizon. This gives the moon illusion where it appears much larger than normal when compared to the horizon.
Saturday, October 4, 2025 is International Observe the Moon Night! Get out and observe the Waxing Gibbous Moon.
The Moon will be rising around 5:30 pm, so look to the East in the early evening to see it rising above the horizon.
It might also look a little larger than normal. This is because the Moon's orbit is carrying it slightly closer to the Earth. It's closest approach will be on Tuesday, October 6, during the Full Moon, giving us a Supermoon that night.
If the weather is poor, use this link to watch the moon on the NASA Night Sky Network: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2RxVmbK1O0.
Clear Skies!!
