DESCRIPTION
Primary-aged students in the North Penn School District have the unique opportunity to participate in “Suzuki Method” violin classes. The “Suzuki Method” was developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki in Japan. He based his approach on the belief that musical ability is not an inborn talent, but an ability that can be developed. Anyone can learn to play the music in the same way that one learns their native language – by imitation. Children learn to speak by listening and imitating the language spoken around them. By listening to recordings of the literature they will learn, children absorb the language of music just as they do the sounds of their mother tongue. This is called the “Mother Tongue Approach.”

PARENT COMMITMENT
At School: Parents are required to attend ALL lessons with their child. During lessons, they will be helping coach their child as well as take notes about skills and songs that need to be reinforced at home.
At Home: Parents are required to practice WITH their child. At no time should a child be practicing on their own. It is the parent's role to coach the child to master the skills introduced in class.
Prior musical experience is NOT required. Parent classes will be taught prior to children starting Level 1 to guide you how to become a coach to your child.
