DESCRIPTION
Mrs. Feliciani also conducts the North Penn Middle School Sinfonia. Sinfonia is composed of the most proficient Orchestra members from Pennbrook, Penndale, and Pennfield. Sinfonia provides students opportunities to learn interesting and challenging repertoire above and beyond what is offered in their school orchestra, while experiencing smaller ensemble playing and striving to perform at the highest level. It's never too early to start working towards this group! Please ask for more information if you are interested.
Since its inception in 2021, Sinfonia has been awarded top honors at music adjudications which include consistent Superior ratings, 1st place distinctions and Best Overall Orchestra awards. Sinfonia has also been a featured performer at both the Pennsylvania Music Educators Associate state conference and the National Association for Music Education All Eastern Division Conference, and has received commendations from the North Penn School Board.
REHEARSALS
Sinfonia rehearses every TUESDSAY evening at Inglewood/Penndale MS. Students need to arrive between by 6:00 PM in order to be tuned and warm up for rehearsal. Rehearsals will begin promptly at 6:15 PM and end at8:30 PM. Families are responsible for all transportation to and from rehearsals.
EXPECTATIONS
Students should be able to (performance expectations):
Perform with correct instrument position and posture
Perform with correct left/right hand technique
Perform with complete knowledge of note reading on all 4 strings
Has knowledge of performing notes other than in 1st position.
Perform with complete knowledge of basic rhythm reading (quarter, eighth, sixteenth note patterns and corresponding rests)
Easily follow printed bowings and articulations
Perform with accurate intonation and can make adjustments while playing
Perform with vibrato continuously or at least beginning vibrato that is developing
Perform with a beautiful tone
Students are modeling the following behaviors:
Students are a member of at least one core performance ensemble during the school day (Band, Chorus, or Orchestra)
Exhibit a consistent practice routine that strives towards excellence (45+ minutes most days of the week)
Exhibit above and beyond dedication to Orchestra in and outside of school
Exhibit a strong desire to learn and excel
Model citizens of the North Penn community - students are respectful of their schools, peers, directors, and themselves.
Students behave according to the North Penn code of conduct and the expectations set by the directors.
Respond to coaching and understand rehearsal etiquette
Adaptable to a variety of teaching styles
Dedicated to following the rehearsal and performance schedule of the ensemble
Students come to rehearsals with their music LEARNED/PREPARED and show consistent progress from week to week of the musicianship being taught at rehearsals. The ensemble cannot REHEARSE effectively if the individuals haven’t PRACTICED.
