Welcome to 4th Grade!

Dear Fourth Grade Families,

This year's Battle of the Books will take place on Tuesday, January 15 at 2:15pm in the gym. As previously noted, the January battle will serve as a practice round and everyone will advance. After the practice battle, all students will get a new list of books and we will have a final round to determine a school champion in April. This team will move on to the final battle, to be held at Yinghua Academy in May. Parents are invited to attend if you wish! There will be another opportunity for parents to attend the 2nd round battle in April.

January is "Bee Season". All students will be participating in the classroom spelling bee, which will take place in their homeroom classrooms and will be administered by their homeroom teachers. The dates for the classroom spelling bees will be announced by each homeroom teacher. They will be conducted before Thursday, January 17th. The school-wide bee will be held on Thursday, January 24th from 4 - 5 pm in Ms. Marchand's classroom (room 122). The classroom bee winner from each homeroom class will participate in the school-wide bee.

Thursday, January 17th marks the end of second quarter. Please take some time between now and January 17th to check your child's progress this quarter on Infinite Campus. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child's homeroom, math, and reading teacher directly.

Thursday, January 17th is also the deadline for the Independent Reading Challenge second quarter page number goal. If your child is participating in the Independent Reading Challenge, please check in with him/her between this week and next to make sure he/she has completed and turned in all book recommendation forms for the books he/she has read. Note: Your child does not need to fill out a book recommendation form for any Battle of the Books books he/she has read. There is a special prize for the students who have met their quarter two goals. We would love for all students who are participating in the challenge to be able to enjoy this prize!

Winter weather reminder: Please make sure your child comes equipped with appropriate outerwear now that the weather has turned cold and snowy. Also, in an effort to keep the halls clear, we will have students put all outerwear, including boots, in their lockers. To keep the wet boots from "leaking" please send a plastic bag for boots with your child.

Upcoming:

  • Monday, January 21st: No School, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
