Dear Secondary School families,
Please find below the updates for this week, and upcoming events:
Grade-level assemblies:
This week and next, students, in their respective cohorts, are holding the first (for this school year) grade-level assemblies. In Upper Secondary (grades 9-12), these meetings are organized by the grade-level representatives to the Upper Secondary School Student Council; in Lower Secondary (grades 6-8), they are student-planned, and advisory teacher-assisted by a group (for example, 7.1 organizing the grade 7 assembly) in a given cohort. The team and I value these opportunities for students to exercise their student voice, plan for success, and engage in some fun activities.
Student representation in DP Faculty Meetings:
Our DP Coordinator, Ms. Viktorija Dimitrovska, and her team are championing the relevance of student voice, following on the practices and teachings of Russell Quaglia and Michael Corso. With that in mind, the grade-level representatives for Grades 11 and 12 (DP 1 and 2) are invited to take part in the monthly faculty meetings of the DP staff. The first meeting they are going to take active participation in, and speak to questions/constructive feedback+ideas the student body they represent has identified, is set for Oct 16, 2025.
Fall 2025 Semester student-led Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences:
As announced, on October 30 and 31, we’ll be hosting our student-led Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences. These two days are designed to have students reflect on their learning goals, with parents in attendance. With that in mind, there are no classes scheduled for these two days. Next week, on Wednesday, Oct 22, 2025, I’ll share a brief email with sign-up instructions, as well as the room matrix for the day. I’ll also share with students a brief note in terms of how to structure their student-led conferences.
Term 1 Progress Reports on Managebac (available on Oct 27, 2025):
On October 27th, in the early afternoon, the first term progress reports will be issued via Managebac. Both parents and students will have access to these reports. In the MYP, for courses that have all of the criteria assessed, there will be an overall mark without further comments; for MYP courses that do not have all of the criteria assessed, N/A will be linked to the progress report and a comment detailing where the student is at, in terms of the course and its expectations, will be added. In the DP, students will receive a 1-7 mark for work that has been completed; N/A will be linked to the report, including a comment, if work is still counted as incomplete. For core DP subjects, such as TOK and EE, students are marked with Pass/Fail; the same would apply - Incomplete, for work that is counted as incomplete.
