About Us
MISSION
The Norwood High School Global Citizenship Program (GCP) promotes global competence, a key 21st century skill by fostering students’ interest in the larger world beyond the confines of Massachusetts and the United States. Through interdisciplinary academic study, community service, and international travel, participants increase their global awareness, heighten their appreciation of diversity, and enlarge their capacity to work and contribute in an increasingly interconnected world.
Students who participate in this program will be recognized for building knowledge that is essential for making a contribution to a global society. They will receive a special certificate upon graduation and their status as a Global Citizenship Certificate recipient will be noted on their college transcripts. Students may choose to submit their GCP resume with their materials so college admissions officers will have an overview of the student’s activities that resulted in this distinction. In order to receive the certificate upon graduation, NHS students must be able to:
Think globally.
Students will develop an understanding of the interdependence of the global community through academic coursework, face-to-face interactions and service learning projects.
Communicate effectively.
Students will communicate with people across the boundaries of geography, culture, and politics.
Contribute responsibly.
Students will travel outside of the United States of America; volunteer their time; and demonstrate comprehension and flexibility when presented with multiple perspectives that challenge their own preconceptions about the world. Students will become self-reflective about their role in an interdependent world.
