This year, the art department has designed the curriculum around the following units: drawing, painting, design, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. We are thrilled to be able to use a wider variety of materials this year with our students.
Art is only for one half of the school year. Each student will receive a numerical grade for art on their report card for the two terms that they have art. A student’s art grade is based on three components; class projects, notebook entries, and participation. Students are graded on each component with a corresponding rubric. Each component is weighed as follows:
Class Projects 75%
Notebook 10%
Participation 15%
Class projects consist of work that is completed in class. If a student does not finish in the scheduled class time, they have the option of attending after-school make-up (which is held once a week). It is essential for students to pass in project rubrics by the designated due date in order to be successful in class.
Students are required to bring a one subject notebook and a pencil to class. We will use the notebook to develop important skills such as; observational drawing, reflective writing, sketching, and note-taking. The notebook will stay in the art classroom throughout the semester.
