Just try! That is all that I ask is that you try with your child. As you know every child is different and every home situation is different. Just try what you can. Some days might be easier than others! I see that in the classroom and you learn when you can push harder and when you need to be there to support them.

I am just trying also! I'm trying to figure out how much information to post, how best to provide instruction, and most importantly how I can support you as parents.

You were thrown into role of teacher without much time or instruction. I'm going to try something different and post more videos of myself teaching. I will post pictures of the needed papers for each lesson. I would like you to sit with your child to complete these lessons. I hope that this is helpful to both you and your child.

Please let me know if there is anything more I can do to assist you or your child. Remember to check Class Dojo for some extra fun videos and information! :)

Maplehurst teachers miss our students!

Welcome to my webpage! I have sent some materials home and will be posting when to do them and giving further directions on the weekly activity pages in the upper corner. At school we usually work on these tasks all throughout the day and do not sit for longer than 20 minutes at a time. Utilize the movement songs before and/or after your work times with your child. Do the best that you and your child can do. If you are unable to complete all the materials but you have had a great day with your child, that is more important. Your child will learn by being engaged in activities with you throughout the day. I am going to try to add some other pages (upper right hand corner) with suggestions of hands on activities that you can do with your child. Each of your children has their own independent goals along with the general instruction. I will do my best and try to address those with the assignments and also provide you with other suggestions. You will be receiving a copy of their progress report in the mail. Keep those handy so you have a reminder of their goals.

We use visuals all day long! We start each group time with the green rules that you see on the left. I usually give a visual of the supply needed while giving the verbal direction. You can make your own visuals by drawing a basic drawing of all of these. I do this as well when I don't have a picture handy. You can make a numbered list of the steps with words and pics.

Your child is used to having a visual schedule at school that shows when they play, go to the bathroom, work, lunch, etc. If you are in need of those pictures to help you and your child get through their day please e-mail me. I would be able to send you pics in a PDF that you can then print out.

This is an example of another visual that we use and is also a motivator. When your child is completing independent work at their desk they are shown first work and then they get to pick something they are working for. You can make this for yourself at home and just draw some pictures. You will have many more options for "Then" at home than we do at school.

Norwalk City Schools is encouraging students to participate in spirit week. If you are on Facebook, Norwalk Elementary PTO and Norwalk City Schools invites you to share your pictures with #NCScares and #keepontruckin'.

You will be getting a message inviting you to join Class DoJo. I have been looking for another way to communicate with you and your child. It can be used as an app so hopefully it will be something you can all use. If you have any questions, please let me know!

I have tried to find a less overwhelming way to post assignments for your children. Please see the drop down under week 2 and find the appropriate day. Hope this makes it easier. Please don't worry if you can't get every thing done. I want you to have options and also know some days go better than others. :)
