This course is a continuation of Prelude at a more advanced level. The Philharmonia Orchestra plays at special programs, at other schools in the system, and at public concerts. Emphasis is placed upon refining tone quality, artistic interpretation of music, and application of music theory and music history to informed performance practice. String quartets and small ensembles are offered. Students are encouraged (but not required) to audition for music festivals (CMEA regionals, All State, etc.) Students not studying privately will be required to attend in-school lessons roughly four to five times per quarter. Prerequisites: Completion Prelude Orchestra or audition.
