Multilingual Learners need scaffolded instruction in order to access content material and to build English proficiency. The scaffolds include pre-teaching and analyzing vocabulary and concepts, articulate and slower rate of speech, using visuals and videos, providing a word bank or dictionary, repeated readings, flexible groupings, and using the native language to bridge learning. The purpose of the scaffolds is to make the content comprehensible to the learners and to develop language skills in the process. Every lesson should have a content objective and a language objective.
Use varying supports to engage multilingual learners in content areas.
