Day 27 review and Day 28

Watch to review the Bar Model strategy. Be sure you used it the correct way on your paper yesterday. Try it again if you didn't. It may have been a while since you used a Bar Model.

Did you get tricked? Check and see. If you worked it through like me.

Day 28 is refreshing our practice with inches, feet and yards. Once again you will be estimating, which means selecting the most reasonable response based on information you already know. Use the Anchor chart to help you or the real tools if you have them available.

What is the best tool for measuring this? And what is a reasonable estimate of how long it could be? Have you ever used one? Yes, so...I would pick inches and my estimation is 2 inches. Bet yours estimation was pretty close to mine .

Check Back Here on Monday Morning for Exemplar Guidance & a Challenge for those who Dare!!!!

Tuesday Math Review: You were asked to estimate which tool would be the best for measuring certain objects or to estimate the best size of an object. SO... what does estimate mean.
When you estimate you are thinking of the most reasonable response or judgement based on information you already know. For example: Which would be the most reasonable measurement for a glue stick? 8 Centimeters or 22 centimeters?
I need to stop and ask myself, "What do I already know that can help me?" "I know a centimeter is about the width of my pinky and I know that 30 centimeters is almost the size of a chrome book. Hmmm... So, 22 centimeters is closer to 30 centimeters than 8 cm. I have used glue sticks so I know they are not as big as my chrome book. So, 8 centimeters is a better estimate or reasonable response for this problem."
Here is another example when needing to select the best measuring unit for an object or situation. What would you use to measure a car?
Let me think about what I already know! I wouldn't choose centimeters to measure the length of a car since I know how big a car can be and I know that a centimeter is about the width of my pinky. That would be unreasonable. Using meters would be better for this task. Meters are 30 cm together, meters are larger, that would be more reasonable than centimeters.
So do a quick check of what you picked yesterday and see if you might want to fix anything. And keep this in mind when you move on.

Wed. Day 26 Math

Please be sure to have your math work for today with you when you watch, along with a pencil and eraser. I will guide you through how to do today's problems. When you are done you can share your work with your teacher. Each short video focuses on a different problem.

Problem 1 with Guided Instruction Provided.

Problems 3 & 4 with a little teacher assist.
