T Level: EDUCATION AND EARLY YEARS 

Course Overview

WHY CHOOSE T LEVELS?

T Levels are ideal if an individual wants to:

• Develop practical skills, knowledge and behaviours that show occupational competence 

• Apply theory in real workplace settings 

• Combine classroom learning (80%) with on-the-job employment experience (20%) 

• Pursue a high-quality technical route into skilled employment, further study or higher/ degree apprenticeships 

• Develop maths, English and digital skills within the qualification framework 


HOW IS IT ASSESSED?

Core component: Grades A* to E are based on combines scores from written examinations and an employer-set project


Occupational specialism component: Distinction/Merit/Pass grades are based on coursework assignments.


The course combines classroom-based learning and workplace assessments.

There are 2 main units - the Core Component (A and B) and the Occupational Specialism (Assisting Teaching). There is also a work placement with an Employer-Set Project to be completed.

Work placement is  of at least 45 days which will be  completed in an educational setting such as a Primary School.

Target Audience

This qualification is for learners who want to work with children, such as Paediatric Nurses or Early Years Educators. This qualification can support learners who would like to take a vocational route to University. 

Entry requirements: Students must achieve 5 9-5 GCSE grades including Maths and English. Please contact the Sixth Form team if you unsure if you will achieve these grades, we may be able to still support your application.

Year 13 - 2 Units

EMPLOYER SET PROJECT

You will be given the opportunity to work up to 750 hours across the two years in a setting related to your course, for example in a Primary School.

The purpose of the employer-set project is to ensure that students have the opportunity to apply core knowledge and skills to develop a substantial piece of work in response to an employer-set brief. The brief and tasks are contextualised around an occupational area and chosen by the student ahead of the assessment window. 

OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALISM - ASSISTING TEACHING

In this module, you will:

1) Support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups 

2) Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults 

3) Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people 

4) Recognise, adapt and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with special educational needs and disability (SEND), to support development and access to the curriculum

Student Destinations

Past students have progressed in many ways, including attending Winchester University to study Events Management and Primary Education. Students are now working as Early Years Educators in settings such as Day Nurseries, Schools and Pre Schools.
